In the space below, you will see some of the teaching experiences that have helped shape me into the educator that I am today.  While some positions were better fits than others, my career thus far has showed me that every teaching opportunity is also an opportunity to learn.  I hope that reading through these experiences will help give you a better understanding of what I value as an educator and how I am continually striving to grow and become the best teacher I can become.

Fall 2020 - Present

6th Grade World History - Boston Prep Charter Public School. Boston, MA

At Boston Prep, I teach four sections of 6th grade ancient world history with an emphasis on developing literacy skills and making modern connections to ancient events.  I helped spearhead a hybrid learning program with fellow sixth grade educators during 2020-2021 school year which involved regularly adapting to different situations.

I completed a 12 week Think:Kids Tier 1 training with focus on improving and strengthening relationships between students and teachers in school.

Summer 2020

9th Grade Humanities - Boston Public Schools Summer Program. Boston, MA

Lead a skill based, project learning social studies course based on the Banana Wars and the lasting impact of unjust practices on modern society. A major focus was on teaching students how to use statistical math skills including graphs, percentages, linear functions to create fact based arguments.

Due to this being a fully remote program, I also helped pilot the use of Canvas software to improve online learning for Boston Public Schools for students returning in the fall.

January-June 2020

7th Grade US History - UP Academy Dorchester. Boston, MA

Lead three sections of US history where I developed engaging and accessible lessons.  During the Covid-19 crisis, I proactively worked to create lessons through Google Classroom, NearPod, and Zoom among other software that allowed students to continue learning key content and skills to prepare them for the eighth grade.

Worked and collaborated with a team of teachers, including a City Year Corps member, to address grade wide learning and behavioral concerns and incorporated Social Emotional Learning into the classroom.

Fall 2017- December 2019

9th and 12th Grade Social Studies - City on a Hill Charter Public High School. Boston, MA

City on a Hill was my first full time job leading a history classroom and it was here that I saw an incredible amount of growth as a teacher.  My primary responsibility was teaching freshmen civics, where I gained significant experience differentiating my lessons and assessments for a wide range of  learners, collaborating with a cross curricular team of freshmen teachers, and learning about the nuances of teaching students who are entering high school for the first time.  With the freshmen I used the Generation Citizen program to help them develop stronger connections to their community through community outreach and collaboration.

I also taught a senior course called City Project which was a much different but equally rewarding learning experience. City Project is a graduation requirement for seniors where they are responsible for completing an intensive, 100 hour service project focused on addressing a specific issue then writing and presenting a ten page research paper about their experience.  Teaching both freshmen and seniors gave me great insight into the skills students come into high school with as well as what they'll need to master before they move on to their next steps in life.

Summer 2017

7th Grade Humanities - Steppingstone Summer Academy. Boston, MA

The summer academy at Steppingstone is a month long program that designed to help students both retain learning from the school year and continue developing essential student skills for their futures.  One of the main goals of Steppingstone is to help prepare students for life at rigorous college prep high schools, which in turn allowed me to create interesting, difficult curriculum to do this.  I integrated numerous primary and secondary sources of varying reading levels, assessed students for their writing, presentation, and research skills; and I incorporated a lot student choice in assignments as well.

Fall 2016-Spring 2017

7th-8th Grade Paraprofessional- Upper Devotion Middle School (now Florida Ruffin Ridley School) Boston, MA

Maintained a case load of 15-20 special education students and helped develop strategies to accommodate lessons based on their IEPs.  Established relationships with students in order of increase motivation and assist with emotional/social development along with educational development.
